The landlady is back
The garrulous, meddlesome landlady was once an accepted part of British life but as Britain became richer and more people were able to buy their own homes the practice of taking in paying house guests largely disappeared. But more and more households are taking in lodgers in a bid to generate extra income during the current credit crisis, partly encouraged by the governments Rent a Room scheme which allows landladies to earn up to 拢4,250 a year tax free. Sheila is joined by Cassandra Jardine and Alex Knight to discuss听the pros and cons of sharing your home with a paying guest?
