Or is parenting ultimately a mother's responsibility?
Inevitably it is the mother that carries the child for nine months, and many mothers then breastfeed. What effect does this have on the subsequent care of the child and the division of labour in the home? Is听a pattern set听which prevents fathers from learning parenting on the job? Do some women, consciously or unconsciously, exclude their partners from childcare? Brid Featherstone, Professor of Social Work at Bradford University, Caroline Gatrell, Lecturer at Lancaster University鈥檚 Management School, and writer听Tony Parsons give their views. |
