Saudi Lingerie 24 Feb 2009
A campaignÌýin Saudi Arabia to change the way that women's underwear is sold

Whether you see shopping for underwear as either an occasional treat or a bit of a chore, it’s a relatively painless process and there’s lots of choice in the shops. However in Saudi Arabia it’s rather different. Currently most lingerie stores in Saudi Arabia are staffed by men, and women have to negotiate their most intimate of purchases with male strangers. What makes this story particularly bizarre is that Saudi is one of the most conservative countries on earth – and strict segregation laws mean men and women can't even be alone in a room together if they're not related. Now, a campaign is underway to change the way that women's underwear in the country is being sold. It’s being led by Reem Assad lecturer in banking and finance at Dar al-Hekma women's college in the city of Jeddah.Ìý Stephanie HancockÌýreports from Jeddah.
