A new exhibition opening this week at the British Museum, presents the ancient arts of the Japanese religious beliefs known as Shinto.

Shinto - The Sacred Art of Ancient Japan explores the kami - the gods behind the religion and also looks at the mysterious ritual beliefs from which Shinto developed.
Jenni is joined by Ian Reader, Professor of Religious Studies, University of Lancaster and Tomoko Minami, Organiser of the opening ceremony of Japan 2001, to discuss the role of women in the Shinto religion and how it's influence is still felt in modern day Japan.
Japan 2001 runs until March 2002.
Shinto - The Sacred Art of Ancient Japan runs from 5th September to 2nd December (closed 22nd October).
