Prostitutes have plied their trade for centuries in the Leith district of Edinburgh and since the 1980s the local police and council have regarded the area as a zone where prostitution should be tolerated and regulated.
It's a policy which led to dramatic reductions in violent crime, HIV infection and child prostitution and it's been hailed as a model for other areas affected by street prostitution.
But the red light district has recently become a gentrified neighbourhood bringing the area's oldest profession into conflict with its newest residents.
And at the end of this month official tolerance of prostitution in Leith will come to an end. Jenni is joined by Ruth Thomas Morgan of the Scottish Prostitutes Education Project, Campbell Scott, a resident of the Sheldon Street area and Margo Macdonald, Member of Scottish Parliament.
