At the end of the Second World War, an astonishing discovery was made in the basement of a derelict synagogue in Prague.
When the Nazis had fled, they abandoned over 1,500 Torah Scrolls stolen from Czech synagogues.
With many of the temples to which the scrolls had come now destroyed, and the communities they had served having been dispersed or having perished in concentration camps, the scrolls were now technically homeless.
For the last 36 years of her life Ruth Shaffer has dedicated herself to the restoration and redistribution of the scrolls to new synagogues.
The result has been the formation of some remarkable relationships between Jewish communities around the world and the Czech communities from where their scrolls originated.
Judi Herman found out how a children's choir from Uhrineves in Prague have become connected with a synagogue in North London. First she went to meet Ruth at the Czech Scroll Centre at Westminster Synagogue.
