Ìý Wasfi Kani Wednesday 13 February 2002 Ìý
Wasfi Kani West Side Story is Bernstein and Sondheim's classic reworking of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet set in gangland New York. On Friday night it will be performed by the staff and inmates of Winchester Prison, under the direction of Pimlico Opera and it's Executive Director Wasfi Kani.

This is a yearly commitment that the opera company makes with a prison somewhere in the country. It goes inside and works with the inmates for a number of weeks. The results have been rewarding.
Wasfi Kani discusses her work in prisons with Jenni.
Pimlico Opera goes behind bars for 7 performances from 15th to 23rd February. The Box office number is 020 7320 5586.
