Public Lives Tuesday 9 April 2002
Would you like to monitor the actions of doctors, scientists or the police? Do you have ideas on how to get trains to run on time? Would you give up your free time to ensure that vets only use drugs that you've approved? As the government launches road shows to get women involved in public life we ask - is it such a good idea? Is it do-gooding run amok or a vital and democratic way to improve our public services?

We hear from Rosemary Collingborn, a farmer who volunteers. Taking part in the discussion will be:
Dr Eamonn Butler, of the Adam Smith Institute
Janet Veitch, from the Women's National Commission
