Unhappy at university, painfully shy and unsure about her future, Kate Chisholm retreated into a life of not eating.
At 24 she weighed six stone and was admitted to hospital for a regime of twice-daily puddings, total bed-rest and family visits only as a reward for gaining weight. All an antidote, it was thought, to her 'ideal' weight of 4 stone six.
Twenty five years on Kate, now a successful journalist, has finally been able to tell her story. Not of anorexia but of anorexia overcome.
Kate Chisholm joins Jenni to talk about what makes young women stop eating, and why she believes anorexia is neither new, nor a disease just for slimmers. Hungry Hell by Kate Chisholm, published by Short Books, 拢5.99 ISBN 1-904095-23-2
