Dame Margaret Anstee turned to working for the United Nations in the 1950s to escape a failing marriage - and she has never looked back.
A renowned trouble-shooter for the UN and the first woman to reach its highest ranks, Dame Margaret was in Kuwait after the first Gulf War, headed peace talks in Angola, and rescued people from Pinochet's brutal coup in Chile. "Whenever disaster struck it seemed that my name came first out of the hat," she has said.
Now in her 70s, Margaret Anstee joins Shelagh to talk about her remarkable life and her current role in training peacekeepers.
