DNA Rape Cases Tuesday 26 August 2003
Image: Human DNA
We've recently discussed some of the reasons behind last year's rise in reported rapes and yet a fall in convictions. But the police have had some success using DNA profiling.

A team from the Metropolitan Police has identified as many as 1500 unsolved rape cases where they think they can re-open the files and use clothing or other crime scene material to provide good evidence.
Earlier this month they had their first conviction. Nick Keall was sentenced to 8 years for the rape and assault of a 21 year old au pair in 1989. Anna McNamee met the young woman Keall attacked 14 years ago.
But is a result like this always so liberating for the woman who was raped? Betsy Stenko, Professor of Criminology at Royal Holloway College in London and Deborah Singer, Policy Manager at Victim Support join Jenni to discuss.
