When Barbara Miller, a highly qualified manager with some 28 years experience, applied for a senior management position at Durham County Council - she may not have been absolutely sure she would get the job - but she certainly didn't expect her employers to appoint a man without the relevant qualifications in her place.
A tribunal heard that the council had once been described as a "laddish culture" and awarded her 拢133,000 in compensation. So is it still the case that when it comes to the very top positions - local government still gives the plum jobs to the boys?
Barbara Miller joins Jenni together with Mandy Wright, director of Workforce Diversity at Employers' Organisation for Local Government and Carol Hassan, Chief Executive of Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council to discuss the issue.
