Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy Thursday 5 February 2004
For the first time doctors, academics and politicians are coming together to cast a critical eye over the diagnosis of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy.

An illness whereby people hurt someone else, often their children, in order to get attention. The condition will come under scrutiny at an international conference in Australia, with suggestions that many women have had their children taken from them because of a false diagnosis. Not everyone agrees.
Jenni talks to expert Dr Helen Hayward Brown from the Social Justice and Social Research Centre, University of Western Sydney, and later is joined by Professor Alan Craft, President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Dr Lynne Wrennall of the Public Health Research Group, University of Liverpool to discuss both sides of the debate.
