Downland Farm Project 10听May听2004
How a grade II listed farmhouse is helping听disabled people

The news that your child has a disability can be devastating and is certain to turn a parent's life upside down. But when Jill Parker was told her daughter Katie, who's now 25, was severely autistic, she was determined that people shouldn't write her off.

Banding together with other parents in a quiet corner of Sussex , she transformed a Grade II listed farmhouse into a hotel and plant nursery to be staffed by disabled young people. After initial hesitation from the local community, the Downland Farm Project has now become an admired and well-loved part of village life in Willingdon.

Rachel Schofield went to meet Jill in the gardens of the farmhouse hotel.
