It
was originally built for the Earl of Manvers in 1843. It's the only
Victorian bathhouse in South Yorkshire that is set in its original
grounds. It's Grade II listed.

And after
a hefty dose of restoration work, it's finally open to the public
once more.
Birley Spa
can be found secluded by a ravine off Birley Spa Lane at Hackenthorpe,
Sheffield.
Its return to
public use has been made possible thanks to a Heritage Lottery grant,
plus funding from the South Yorkshire Forest Partnership.

A Heritage
Lottery grant helped pay for the spa's renovation |
The building
returned to public use on 19 July, with a special Victorian-themed
day of celebration.
The event featured
tours of the facility, traditional wooden crafts and demonstrations,
May Pole dancing and singing by local school children.
Birley Spa's
long-term purpose will be as an educational facility - offering
guided historial tours of the bathhouse - and a community facility,
available for hire to community groups and individuals.
