Harrogate Town reached Wembley for the first time as the Yorkshiremen beat Boreham Wood to book their place in next Sunday's National League play-off final.

Jack Muldoon's 65th-minute glancing header was enough to secure a meeting with Notts County, who beat Barnet in the other play-off semi-final.

Simon Weaver's men, who finished second behind Barrow, are now just win away from joining the already promoted Bluebirds in the English Football League.

Promotion would mean having to rip up their artificial surface - but that thought was a long way from people's minds as the hosts ran out deserved winners at their empty stadium.

Harrogate had the better of the first half and just could not get past Wood's replacement keeper Nathan Ashmore, who made three fine first-half saves.

Matt Rhead - once a Wembley winner with Lincoln City - came closest for Wood when he hit the post.

Then, from Rhead's knockdown from Kane Smith's right-wing cross, the visitors had a great chance to go ahead early in the second half. But, although Kabongo Tshimanga should have got on the end of it in a scramble, the ball went the wrong side of the post.

Instead, it was Harrogate who got the all-important goal as Smith's goalward header from George Thomson's corner was touched in by Muldoon's deft headed flick.
