How many synagogues are there in North Staffordshire? Well, at the moment there aren't any. The last remaining synagogue does still stand in Stoke-on-Trent but it's now closed, boarded up and set for demolition. The handful of people still left in the area's orthodox Jewish congregation are now worshipping in Sidney Morris's living room whilst a new, smaller synagogue is being built in Newcastle.Ìý 82 year old Sidney has been the president of the congregation for some 40 years.Ìý As he guides us round the old synagogue, he tells us what the community means to him…
