For many people who go through a major trauma like a heart attack, or survive cancer, or go through a big operation, getting over the physical effects of their illness is only just the beginning of a long and difficult process of healing and getting better. All too often, you can get the all-clear from your doctor and think you're healthy again, only to find yourself slipping into depression and serious mental illness. Trade union convener Paul Heath was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and was treated successfully - but while his physical symptoms were dealt with, he found himself slipping into mental illness and suffered a complete breakdown.
