Or were they? Jill is 22-years-old and lives in Congelton in Cheshire. She is studying for her MA in Broadcast Journalism at Staffordshire University.
Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer She enjoys going to the theatre to see musicals. Transcript:What鈥檚 small, brown, and gets stuck on speed-bumps? Mavis the mini. I spent six months bumping that poor car around the streets of Congleton, with my Dad cringing in the front seat. On my first lesson we took a wrong turning - 鈥淵ou said turn left!鈥 鈥淚 didn't mean here, you daft child!鈥 We ended up in the narrowest road in Congleton, where I did my first seven point turn and Mavis lost her front registration plate. Two weeks later, a speedy reversal from the garage took the passenger wing mirror off. No wonder Dad was stressed when I was driving his treasured mini. His feet'd be going along with mine, twitching for the brake every time there was a car in sight. 鈥淲hat speed limit do you think we're in child?鈥 鈥淎nd how fast are you going child?鈥 鈥29 Dad, it鈥檚 a mini, it won't go up a hill any faster鈥. When I finally went for my test I was nervous . . . driving a car with five gears makes a big difference. I chatted to the examiner, and mentioned how much I really liked driving Mavis 鈥 and he said, 鈥淥h, I leant to drive in a mini, they're great, aren't they?鈥 and I just thought 鈥淵es, I've passed!" last updated: 10/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Stoke & Staffordshire > Inside Lives > Humour > Mavis the mini
