We'd been looking forward to this game for what seemed like ages.

In fact, it was touch and go as to whether we would actually get any tickets, as it was reported that over one million people had applied for tickets for this historic event.
But, in the end, we did!

The big day

It was obvious that people had travelled to London from all over the world; and the city was literally a buzz with American football fever.听听

They're big, but this one is very big!

The National Football League (NFL) had pulled out all the stops to put on a memorable weekend for the first ever competitive NFL game to be played outside America.听
As well as a massive American Football player robot, there were explosive fireworks, great commercials and forty Miami Dolphin cheerleaders.听
The atmosphere was amazing!听

I don鈥檛 know anything about American football, but luckily my husband who's both American and an NFL enthusiast, Peter Hedlund, accompanied me to the game.听

Peter has now taken happily to living in Staffordshire, so he was very able to explain to me how British sports compared to football games in the USA鈥�
And, outside the Stadium, I also interviewed Chris and Christian Silvia - who鈥檇 flown over from America especially for the game!

Action

Even though Peter said it wasn鈥檛 a very exciting game as American Football games go, I thoroughly enjoyed it.听
It wasn鈥檛 like football or rugby where the game is non-stop; in this game there were breaks every few minutes.听 During that time, there were cheerleaders and adverts on the big screen, so there was always something to watch.

The heavy rain, doubled with the grass pitch, made for a very muddy, slippery game and it was obvious some players struggled to stay upright.听
Our lovely English weather even took its toll on the cheerleaders as they wrapped up warm as the night progressed.

It was very entertaining to watch these huge blokes crashing into each other and by the end of the game I think I had grasped the basics.听

I was rooting for the Miami Dolphins, but it turned out to be a disappointing game for them.听 The end result:听 New York Giants 13, Miami Dolphins 10.
