Clare
Castle
The high mound, with its ruined tower, is about all that remains
of the original Norman castle at Clare. The extensive earth ramparts,
which cover about twenty acres, have now been developed into a country
park.
It is difficult to visualise the size and grandeur of the fortification
that existed in Norman times, but the views over the open country
give some idea as to why it was built on this site.
The
site is managed as a Country Park by Suffolk County Council. The
Park Centre is open May to September daily, October and April weekends
and bank holidays.
