Divine ArtYou are in: Suffolk > Faith > Divine Art > Trinity Piecemakers Trinity PiecemakersBy Christine Gabriel The Trinity Methodist Church in Felixstowe was refurbished in 2002 and a wall hanging was commissioned to celebrate the reopening. In 2002 Trinity Methodist Church, Felixstowe, began a major refurbishment project.听 The Church was over 100 years old and the project involved removal of the original wooden pews. The Church asked the sewing group, Trinity Piecemakers, to create a wall hanging to complement the new building.听 The project took two years to complete and the hanging was put in place and dedicated in September 2004.听 As you enter the Church building,听 the hanging is visible through glass doors. The design of the wall hanging came from: "How to design and make Banners for Sacred and Secular festivals"听 One of the designs in the book, a Cross, was adapted and the following description was the inspriation - "The impact of this banner lies in the unusual perspective of the cross.听 Its strength draws the beholder in and gathers him to the foot of the cross.听 It stands as a mediator between him and the light of God.听 The dramatic effect relies entirely on the choice of colours and tones.鈥 Although the design for the hanging was adapted from a book, which gave instructions on how to make banners, it can be described as an original work. last updated: 11/04/2008 at 14:22 You are in: Suffolk > Faith > Divine Art > Trinity Piecemakers |
