Suffolk murders: six months on

On 2 December 2006 a man working at a fish farm near the village of Hintlesham discovered the body of 25 year old Gemma Adams.

It was the start of 10 days of horror, as more women disappeared in Ipswich and other bodies were discovered.

It had a huge impact on the people in the community. But six months on, how do those in the town feel?

What kind of impact did the events of December 2006 have? And is all now forgotten?

I set out to try and answer some of those questions in a series of reports for the 成人论坛 Radio Suffolk breakfast show.

I think the main conclusion is that while no one living here will ever forget the women killed or the feeling of being here at that time, Ipswich has moved on and things are at least in some part back to normality.

I hope we will never forget what happened to these lovely girls. Nobody deservesto be treated in this way. Their families will never forget but lets hope they can hold on to their good memories and draw comfort from the work that is being done to help other such girls in the future.

Individually? No although of course I have deep simpahies for the family of those murdered. However I think Suffolk is certainly still feeling the affects of the Murders. They had a disasterous affect on the counties reputation and it will take a long time for Suffolk to regain its oringinal reputation as a beautiful peaceful county.

I think like many locally I still feel a sense of deep sadness over the loss of 5 young women who lost their young lives in such a cruel and brutal way. I say shame on the authorities in this country for not adopting a more mature attitude toward prostitution and allowing legalised brothels or areas set aside which are safe and monitored with medical checks etc like our European neighbours do. Than maybe working girls wouldnt have to tread dark back streets and allyways risking their lives as they do. What has been the reaction by the local authorities to the murders? They intend to step up the harrassment to men in cars who seek the girls services..when are they ever going to learn they wont stop the worlds 'oldest' trade simply because theres demand for it. Make it safer instead by legalising Brothels! CALLEN [The Voice]
