Don't be a TosserYou are in: Suffolk > Nature > Don't be a Tosser > Getting vocal about litter Risby Primary poster Getting vocal about litterAs part of 成人论坛 Suffolk's Don't be a Tosser campaign, reporter Jon Wright wrote a catchy ditty called "Pick It Up". It started off as a nice little acoustic number, but now it's grown into a full band production with added schoolkids. It's a simple message - pick it up or, better still, don't drop it in the first place. Jon Wright said: "I started it on a Sunday night because the next day I was due to take a school assembly at Elmsett. "I thought I'd better come up with a good, catchy chorus first and then take it from there. It took me about seven minutes to write the chorus and first two verses." Jon recorded the spine of the song with his guitar and vocals, then the main backing music was provided by West Suffolk College's music students who took the simple guitar strumming and created their own arrangement. Jon Wright at school Joe Stocking, who's Course Director Music, said: "The students have worked quite hard to get it prepared and recorded听but they really enjoyed the challenge of working to a deadline. "It has turned out to be quite catchy though - in fact the melody sometimes looped round my head as I was trying to get to sleep!" Music Performance students who created the backing were Zach Isom on bass and guitar, Alex Mitton on guitar, Dale Bennett playing piano, Chris Barrs on drums and Daniel Jackson on saxophones. The Foundation Degree students who recorded the track were Jo Fletcher, Dan Turrell, James Davis, Simon Pearce and Josh Head. Jon said they've done a great job: "It's only got three chords, but the music students at West Suffolk College have made it sound much bigger and interesting. It's very, very catchy - in my humble opinion. "All the ideas for the sound, such as the saxophones, came from the music students and 成人论坛 Suffolk's engineer David Butcher did a lot of work making all the different parts - me, West Suffolk College and the schoolchildren - fit together into a delightful piece of ear candy. "If ear candy had a wrapper, I would hope it wouldn't be dropped on the floor." We do need some educationIn a move that could eclipse Pink Floyd's use of schoolchildren on Another Brick In The Wall Part 2, Jon selected some youngsters for his tune. Children from Elmsett and Risby primary schools are the ones bidding for a place in musical history. Jon with some backing vocalists Elmsett's Holly (9), Chelsea (11), Emily (10), Edward (11) and Louis (9) came with headteacher Myra Shackleton and parents after being the first school to learn the original. From Risby primary in West Suffolk, Margherita (8), Joel (9), Daniel (9), Holly (9) and Cara (8) came to record their parts in the second session.
