What is World Book Day and when is it?

World Book Day took place on 7 March 2024 and is a worldwide celebration of books and reading. Designed in partnership with , this programme focuses on reading for pleasure for 7-11 year-olds.

What happens in the World Book Day Live Lesson?

Join hosts Maddie Moate and Joe Tasker, alongside a line-up of incredible authors including Alex Falase-Koya, space scientist Dr. Sheila Kanani, comedian and author Rosie Jones and official World Book Day illustrator Vivian Truong.

We dive deep into fiction and non-fiction and explore different genres to help us design a pop-up library space where we can all come together to read.

World Book Day KS2 teaching resources

Curriculum links: English/Oracy/Language and Literacy for 7-11 year-olds.

  • Develop positive attitudes to reading and understanding of what they read.
  • Extend the range of their reading and develop their own preferences.
  • Appreciate that reading is unique to each person.
