Weaning - no not a wiener, It鈥檚 an unusual name for a simple thing 鈥 introducing baby to solid food, usually when they're around six months old. And yes, you guessed it 鈥 when this happens, things might get a bit messy!
As baby gets older and can sit unaided, introduce them to finger foods. Getting them to try lots of different food is more important than how much they actually eat. But don鈥檛 worry, they鈥檒l still need to fill up on their daily milk. It鈥檚 normal for babies to take a while to get used to new foods, and how much they eat will change each day. And just like us, some days they might feel like eating and some days they won鈥檛!
It鈥檚 good for them try lots of different tastes and textures which can lead to less fussy eating later on. Steer clear of anything sugary and salty and chop finger food into pieces baby can safely eat.
Top Tip: when baby's tired, it鈥檚 not a good time to try weaning鈥 otherwise you鈥檒l both end up grumpy! The NHS website is a great place to go for more advice. Or check out the Tiny Happy People website for more information on weaning. Good luck!
