How can I get my partner more involved?
This can start from the moment that you discover that you are pregnant. Encourage your partner to come to scans and antenatal appointments. Attending antenatal classes together will give your partner the opportunity to meet people in the same situation. Get them to chat to your bump. Then they'll be helping to kickstart your baby's language development and your baby will get to know your partner's voice.
Once your baby has arrived, ask your partner to be around for the home visit with the health visitor. Let them know that they can ask questions. Try to get parent and baby classes together.
Groups for dads and babies are another brilliant way of meeting dads in similar situations.
And get your partner to join in with cuddles. No baby can be cuddled too much. Your partner can take over cuddle duty for a while and you can get some rest. Dad will build a great bond with their baby and it's a wonderful opportunity for them to chat with their baby. This will play a crucial part in developing your baby's language and communication skills.
