It's not too early for your newborn to have a baby workout! Try small movements like raising their arms and pedalling their legs.

Your baby will love to feel your touch as you play, and you might find they're more engaged as you talk them through it.

Take a look at the video below for some ideas.

Why help baby stretch their arms and legs?

  • Your baby's arm and leg muscles are developing and strengthening every day - helping them move their arms and legs will help them build their gross motor skills
  • They'll love to feel your touch as you play - the contact with you promotes the flow of oxytocin, the happy hormone that helps strengthen early bonds
  • The physical movements might help them to focus on your voice and what you're saying to them
  • If you make plenty of eye-contact as you chat to them and it will help keep them engaged

If baby is really not into it, then remember to stop - you can always try another time.
