The winner of the Artes Mundi 4 prize is Yael Bartana - read more in the Arts blog. The exhibition opened on 11 March 2010 at the National Museum Wales, Cardiff and will run until 6 June 2010. The winner was announced on Wednesday 19 May.
The shortlist for the fourth Artes Mundi prize was announced in October 2009, with artists ranging from Albania, Bulgaria, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Russia and Taiwan in line for the UK's biggest contemporary art prize.
The shortlisted artists for Artes Mundi 4 were:
- Yael Bartana (divides her time between Israel and Amsterdam)
- Fernando Bryce (divides his time between Lima and Berlin)
- Ergin Çavuşoğlu (raised in Bulgaria, now based in London)
- Olga Chernysheva (based in Moscow, Russia)
- Chen Chieh-jen (based in Taiwan)
- Kasmalieva and Djumaliev (artist duo based in Kyrgyzstan)
- Adrian Paci (based in Italy originally from Albania).
The selected artists' work cover a broad array of subject matter ranging from aspects of today's globalised society including labour, consumerism, migration, travel and mobility, Israel and the Israeli situation, and the impact of the fall of communism in Kyrgyzstan.
