"When I was young, Christmas time was a very special time for me. I used to get excited about Christmas in November and the following weeks up until the big day used to feel like months. However one Christmas is very special indeed.
It was in 1991 when I was seven years old and I was going to have the best Christmas ever.
When I was little, my parents told me that Santa comes and delivers lots of small presents and I could have one big present off my parents. Every year I would tell my parents what big present I wanted but on this year they told me that I was going to be a surprise. This got me really excited and the days running up to Christmas were torture.
Finally, Christmas morning arrived and I was up bright and early and ran downstairs to open my presents. My eyes lit up when I saw loads of presents wrapped up around the tree but I could not see any big present. I ran back upstairs to wake up my dad and asked him where it was. He gave me a key and said to open the shed outside.
I quickly ran to the shed and opened the door and I had a shock when I saw a go-kart there in front of me. It was the best feeling ever and I was looking around it like mad, checking it out! Because I was only six this beast looked huge and my mother helped me push it outside for a proper look. It was black with gold wheels and it was new and shining. The back tyres were big and had loads of grip and at the back was the engine.
I sat in the seat and I could hardly touch the pedals but that didn't bother me. I just wanted to get it started and go. My mother didn't know how to start it so I had to wait until my dad got out of bed, so I went back in the house to open the rest of my presents.
When my dad got up, we went outside and fired up the go-kart. He told me to be careful because it was quite fast, but I was so excited I had no fear and burned off into the distance. Driving around that field made me feel like Colin McRae but I was struggling reaching the pedals. I went back to the house and told my dad who always fixes things and he bolted on a piece of wood to the throttle and then I could reach it perfectly.
My best friend came out when he heard the engine revving and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw me with that go-kart and he's begging me to have a go.
We spent all day driving around that field and only went in for Christmas dinner.
It was the best Christmas ever."
