Durham Cathedral was voted Britain's favourite building in a survey of British architecture. The cathedral contains the remains of a seventh-century bishop and the first English historian. The building work of the present cathedral was begun around 1093 and continued until 1133. Saddler Street in Durham joins the Market Place. It's also the main route leading to the cathedral. Elvet Bridge leads from Saddler Street into the wide street called Old Elvet. See the Town Hall and Guild hall as well as the entrance to Durham's covered markets. The Gala theatre also includes a visitor centre, cinema screen, caf茅 bars and a restaurant. More from this sectionYou are in: Wear > In Pictures > 360掳 Panoramas > Durham |
