Development of ideas
It is important that you can demonstrate the development of your ideas through notes and sketches. Sketches and diagrams should be annotated with detailed information to explain and justify the design features and manufacturing requirements.
Your ideas should be working towards meeting all the specification points and answering the design issues.
Exploring ideas towards a design proposal: -
- demonstrate effective exploration towards a final design proposal
- demonstrate a clear evolution from your initial ideas
- demonstrate a consideration of alternative ideas
Refining ideas towards a design proposal: -
- demonstrate effective refinement towards a design proposal
- document effective detail in refining your ideas
Applying knowledge and understanding of design: -
- effective application of knowledge and understanding of design in developing your design proposal
Applying knowledge and understanding of materials and manufacture: -
- effective application of knowledge and understanding of materials and manufacture in developing your design proposal
Planning for manufacture
It is important that you can demonstrate the skills of planning the manufacturing of a design through a sequence of operations and dimensioned sketches.
You must show knowledge of the tools and the process of shaping, joining, and finishing required to successfully manufacture the product specified in the design brief.
Completing this requirement involves filling in the 'planning for manufacture' form. In filling in the form you will provide details of: -
- the materials required to manufacture the product developed in the design proposal
- the sizes and dimensions of the product to be manufactured
- the specific requirements for the assembly and manufacture of the product
- the order of manufacture 鈥 the sequence of events of what needs to be done and in what order
- a list of the specific equipment and tools required to manufacture the product
