5 live home page

The new 5 live website is finally visible to the world. This first phase sees the launch of a new look and feel, chapter points, better navigation, a new archive for Mark Kermode's film reviews and full use of the programme brand pages. See my previous post for more information. It's early days for the new site and experience tells us that some of the new features won't be 100% operational for a day or two. If you see anything that's not working as you'd expect it to, please leave a comment to let us know.

The second phase will see the launch of 5 live Now pulling together the best comments sent via text messages, email and online onto a single page, in real-time, alongside the on-air discussion. We'll also be launching new presenter videos from across our network.

Keep your eyes on bbc.co.uk/5live - there's more to come.

Please let us know what you think of the new site - leave a comment here and if you refer to a specific page, it would be helpful if you could provide the page's URL.

    Rubbish site change - can't easily find the sport or news headlines and links to message boards. I'm not interested in staff blogs.

    I'm confused by the above post. To find the News headlines you click on the red News tab and the headlines are on right hand side. For sport headlines click the Green Sport tab and the headlines are in the same place. I'm liking the new site, although more info about the presenters would be handy.

    The new site is pretty good apart from the veneer thin news. This morning no mention of the PMs address to the G20 or the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan. Instead a lot of human interest stuff that feels and reads like a low rate tabloid. I think Radio 5 live listeners are brighter than that and in this regard the new site is a backward step.

    Site is pretty good but the sports news ticker doesnt seem to update. It still shows the same 'headline' as two days ago about jan Venegoor of hesselink signing for Hull.

    Also on the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Home page and in the radio section, where it shows you what is on the radio at the moment; it displays the programme which is actually being played on Radio 4 when you click on the 5live button.

    Total rubbish. Click on news and there are linksto 5Live feeds. 2 jockeys died today but no mention on news or sport. If it ain't broke, why fix it.

    I love the new look, it feels far more navigable than the old site. I also welcome the addition of the Five Live Blog, which is now being followed on my Google reader. Maybe a little more sports content would be nice but other than that I like the new, streamlined look.

    Will the 5live sports extra website be incorporated into the new site or will it keep its own?

    I don't like the new site at all. I spent a long time trying to get in to the Weekend Breakfast site - Phil said 'click on our picture', which didn't work. Where has the 'our presenters' page gone? The mini-biographies and photos - now gone - were great, and it was good to have a picture in my head of the voice I was listening to. It looks okay, but it looked good before too, but it has lost a lot of its intuitive ease of use. Bad change.

    2 comments, firstly a technical one I get a flash 10 error message on every page on the new site I'm running Google Chrome on Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
    Secondly I don't like the site at all, I used to use 5 live as my hub where I got all of my news and sport information from. It showed me the headlines on the first page and the detail was just one click away. Now I need to go to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ main site to get it so I will use that site or another as my main site from now on. All the other stuff about presenters blogs, debates and listen again is of no interest to me and strikes me as being dumbed down, downmarket, tabloid fodder.

    I don't like it all. Its hard to navigate and took me ages to find what I wanted. Why did it need changing? Just for the sake of it?

    Your articles on UKIP and the Transexual prisoner story aren't working either.

    Thank you for your feedback about the new site. Here's some direct feedback on some of the points you have raised.

    @The Apatheist
    Sport headlines are accessible from the sport index and there is a link on the news index for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ News.

    @TheWesthillDon
    There's a problem with the live ticker across all radio network sites at present which is currently being investigated. It will feature the latest news and sport headlines. The crossed wires between Radio 4 and 5 live information on the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ home and radio homepage is being looked at. I'm keen to have these resolved asap.

    @Svensson
    5 live sports extra will continue to maintain its own site (www.bbc.co.uk/5livesportsextra), but both networks' commentaries are accessible from the 5 live site (www.bbc.co.uk/5live/sport/commentaries/). The next 5 commentaries be viewed on the homepage and sports index too.

    @Letheca
    All 5 live programmes can be accessed from the programmes index, available from the top navigation area across all pages of the site. We'll be launching presenter videos within the next few weeks, that will be richer than the written biographies on the old site.

    It would be nice if the radio websites would have some continuity as to where they place the 'On Radio x Now' banner. On the relaunched Radio 2 & 4 websites it's at the top just below the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ master header, whereas on other sites it's below the station's navigation or in its header. If it was placed at the top on the 5Live website it might allow it to be less tall and not affect the layout too much.

    Great site! I like it because there isn't too much information there! Just enough (7+/-2) for the short term memory and thus easy on the eye. As a web designer myself I beleive that a well designed website is key to user retention and if anyone wants any more information on website Usabilty you can contact me on my website at [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]Bluelight SEO

    So we're now meant to post on presenters blogs, thus enabling them to claim how popular they are in that "1k people post on my blog"? Meanwhile of course there is no option to raise issues, so we're simply going to have the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s agenda thrust down our throat until we get board and leave.

    Another triumphant example of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ "listening" to the listeners.

    'Now pulling together the best comments '

    Ah yes ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ power recovered, close down the messageboard so YOU get to control and select. Goebbels would be proud of such achievement. Shame on the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ for having No news and current affairs message board just in time for the next election. Keep the people's voice out of it eh?
