Llama Drama

I have to wake up at 3am tomorrow to try to find some llamas to carry Bruce's stuff. I thought that would be easy in llama country but apparently people use them less and less to carry things and they are not trained anymore so they are unwilling to be loaded. I've heard of a place where there was recently a contest of loading llamas in a record time so I'm hoping the people there will point me towards the champion llamas. If not Bruce will have to train one!

Today I went to the very source of the Amazon. I was looking for camping sites as well as a track to carry the equipment before the rest of the crew get up here in a couple of days. The lovely local man coming with us said the walk was five minutes so I didn't take any water. It ended up being an hour, so by the time we got to the source I was so thirsty that I plunged my head into the glacial cold water coming out from the rock wall.
The icy water that squirted into my face is the very beginning of the Amazon. Standing there you see the tiny stream going down the valley, starting its journey to Brazil where it becomes so big it resembles a sea in Manaus! It's so barren here and couldn't be more different from the lush jungle. At 5200m it looks like the roof of the world.
