Good choices other than that, thats the first time I've seen the 1979 French. I've heard all the folklore and could tell you what happened in the race but had never seen it. Truly brilliant racing.

Why did ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ abuse it's dominant position by blocking the channel 4 bid??

Why not just walk away so the bidding process could happen and F1 wouldn't be allowed to disappear behind a pay TV wall because of the Concorde Agreement??

Why being a publicly funded organisation do the worst possible deal for the people who fund it??
The fans didn't want the 15 million wasted in a joint deal with SKY which gave the loophole out of the Concorde Agreement and the non fans didn't want 15 million of their money wasted either.

It's only a rumour based on their probable dropping of the interactive service for the remaining races, and the fact that the contract runs out at the end of this season.

But it happened to Sky Italia, so who knows.

Like I said Sky UK have an advantage over Sky Germany, in as much as the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ only show 50% of the races whereas RTL show them all ... but every journey starts with a single step :)

I know its only a rumour but its quite easy to draw comparisons between the base model they have and we have. They have never been truly shafted like we have as it has always been a choice there between FTA and Pay Wall subscription.

If Bernie hasn't noticed this then he really is losing it, but I'm pretty sure he is aware and just doesn't care, showing complete contempt for loyal fans.

Following on from when, I'd like to understand the specifics so can the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ answer:

1) Which of the ten F1 races will the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ not be covering live or showing in full later that day?

2) Are ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ attempting to re-sign Martin Brundle and David Coulthard, or is this part of the F1 cuts as well?

3) Do ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ managment plan to make further year on year cuts to the F1 coverage throughout the duration of the deal?

4) Are ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ doing red button F1 forums next year?

5) Do the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ managment feel they could have handled the announcement of the new deal better, better understood the value of F1 from audience numbers and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Trust reports, and if they feel they have been taken for a ride by Bernie Ecclestone?

Glad to see the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ have finally got into the habit of screening the Classic GP's inbetween Practices 1 & 2 on freeview. Its been so obvious for the last 2.5 years, but only now has it become regular... just in time to lose the coverage.. though i hope there can be a way the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ can broadcast Classic GP on TV next year.. it may be one of the few trump cards it can play to combat Sky's coverage.

Excellent choice in Monaco 82 - a couple of points. Firstly, the speed at which they went through the post-tunnel chicane was mind-blowing! Secondly, who was in charge of the opening titles that season? As 'The Chain' explodes into life we have a shot of a mechanic polishing a Lotus. Dramatic stuff.....

some good choices in there just a shame its 50% of what we all be able to watch next year unless you are prepared to watch the ten races the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ wont be showing on sky for £470.00 in standard def or £600 for HD and lets face it most people can not afford that sort of luxury especially with finances and job security being what it is now. Imagine you team only winning the races that are not shown free to air so all you get is a pointless highlights program thats lost all the tension and excitement of a full LIVE race where you probably already know the result.what a disgusting way to treat fans that have been loyal to the sport..... no to sky

2005 Japan, a great race thats for sure. I wonder if we will ever be able to see another great race from Japan, or just some limited highlights of what they "tell us" was as good as 2005.

The Astra idea doesnt help those that cant have a sattelite dish for whatever reason, but still its good to know about it.

Probably trying to get people to bet on other drivers. Ive noticed that Sky "pundits" do alot of this. If one team is odds on to win something the "pundits" will claim that there is x and y reason that they might lose and that its still worth a punt on z. I might just be paranoid but everytime I watch football or boxing on Sky they always give alot of reasons that the favourate might lose! Or it might just be that Tony Jardine knows very very little about F1! Lol

Tony "charisma King" Jardine is a legend. The guy knows nothing about what he is talking about but what annoys me most is his conviction. He is always adamant that he is right even though what he is saying is questionable.

I'd rather have Derrick Warwick present it, at least he knows what he is talking about and doesn't talk with a tone of voice that implies everything he says is FACT, and not open for discussion.

On second thoughts, Plankton or pond weed is more interesting than Tony "Blinky Bill" Jardine.

It's only a rumour based on the proposal to drop their interactive features for the rest of the season, the very same interactive features Sky UK will be trying to sell their coverage on ... Only 2.5% of Sky Germany F1 viewers ever try them out.

Excellent choices though we have had them before. Monaco the end of '82 is always suprising nomatter how many times I see it though! Does seem a pity that the full ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ archive is being overlooked for repeats but its still an excellent feature. Do hope it sticks around for next year. Will be just about the only ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ F1 worth watching.

I have Sky but I have so many passionate F1 fan friends that do NOT I have to say I think it is terrible to put it on pay TV ....... perhaps it could be justified if you could have a full motorsport programme to explore ie WRC . DTM. Nascar ect but no you have to subscribe to ESPN for WRC another £10 a month consequently we are paying for a lot of golf, cricket and football we are not interested in ....... hmmmmm ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ what are you thinking :( it would be far better to let it go to channel 4 or 5 you have had amazing awesome coverage up until now but frankly I think you are letting the motor sport loving public down now shame on you ...... On Radio4 today they said that ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ ITV C4 and C5 all pay Sky about £10 Million to put them on the Sky satalite and are about 50% of theSky content that is watched and if you add the rest of the teresteral chanels ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 3 4 etc that is about 60% of skys watched output why !!!!
I think Sky should pay ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ etc to go on the satelite out of their vast profits filling the funding gap

I just don't get it. The whole Sky/³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ deal smells a bit funny to me. You'd like to think these people were listening wouldn't you? This Classic F1 feature seems to have been put out to pasture as well with the same races featuring on a regular basis. Good races they may be but a bit of variety never hurts. With the exception of some of the smug people who have Sky already, I've not seen a good word said about this "deal". I am finding it hard to comment on classic races when I said 'great choice' last week to Webber. I see the logic of the choices, but it's looking like an empty excercise now.
I grew up watching them with Murray, followed Graham, Nigel and Damon, and all through the Schumacher years. Glorious.
For those who are interested, a very short businessman has commented that he will 'put a stop to that' when questioned about fans listening to 5 live whilst watching an 'alternative' broadcaster, and also RBS have published some crazy monetary/viewing figures praising the 'coup' S*y have pulled off. And it talks about nine races on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ now, not ten. It has started already, watch the gods fall........

As for your removed comments, I'm sure the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ can justify it. It's their house, so their rules apply and they are clearly published for everyone to see.

Its been a bit of a sad week, the last WDC we will all get to see properly for some time, So few people seem interested in getting sky (or have sky) in the F1 world, I really fear it will harm the sport.

Teams aren't going to stick around if no one is watching. I blame the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ quite a bit for letting this happen but its also Bernie's fault. Is he trying to destroy F1 before he retires, make it look like he was the only one who could do it.

As for viewership for F1 the Sun did an article on Football and since they switched from PPV to FTA in asia they saw an increase of over 11% immediately and profits jumped accordingly due to the extra exposure it received, How Bernie can not see this is just proof he is due for the glue factory :)

@95 as you are on a F1 blog I think it would be safe to presume you are a fan of the Sport? if so do you not realise the damage the SKY deal will do to the sport in the UK?

Sky work on numbers and numbers only, if (which they will not) they don`t attract enough new subscribers to justify the F1 expenditure they will like other sports demote it's importance and considering the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ can only show 0.5 of the races it will damage the sports following and ruin it for all in the UK.

Just to note I have SKY and Sports yet I am dead against this deal for the interest of the sport I have watched since being a kid (with my dad) and now watch with mt son and grandsons.
