The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ iPlayer stats pack for September 2010 is now available as a PDF. This is the first pack since the new version of iPlayer came out of beta.

The headlines, put together by the Communications team in ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Future Media & Technlogy are:

• In total, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ iPlayer received 114 million requests for programmes across all platforms in September, including both online platforms and devices and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ iPlayer on Virgin Media TV. This was a slight decrease from strong August programming, which included Sherlock, Top Gear and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳3 Adult Season, however requests across September increased week-by-week as the month progressed (see slide 10). This corresponded with the new autumn schedules, and the re-launch of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ iPlayer.

• Returning autumn drama on TV performed well, including Merlin, Waterloo Road and Spooks. EastEnders attracted significantly more requests than usual due to high-profile storylines and Mock the Week and the return of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Road Show did well for comedy. On radio, Radio 5Live's coverage of Switzerland v England football match was the most-requested programme of the month.

• Live TV viewing via the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ iPlayer increased slightly this September, to make up 10% of all TV programme requests, as also did live radio listening, making up 71% of all radio requests - influenced by the football season and Formula 1 coverage.

  • Comment number 1.

Just out of interest, why is Family Guy (and American Dad) on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Three still not available via iPlayer?

What "legal issues" could possibly merit the distributors stopping the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ from showing these programmes to a greater number of viewers via the iPlayer?

  • Comment number 2.

When will the iPlayer desktop be modified to provide full screen options of live network TV as promised when the Beta was launched?

  • Comment number 3.

Are you double counting downloads to Desktop that expire incorectly and so never get viewed.

The increase caused in duplicated downloads probably balances out the the drift of users away from iPlayer Desktop downloads because of that problem. That also may influence the increase in live viewing or certainly streaming.

Looking forward for to this weeks (update #18,19 & 21) on the problem

Great to see these stats being published. Any plans to publish them in a machine-readable format (e.g. XML, CSV, JSON) so they can be more easily re-used by others?

  • Comment number 5.

Does it also include attempts to download the "New iPlayer" that fails to download to Linux Systems and the repeated attempts of those like me who still a month on since the second upgrade to version 3.0.7 cannot download any programs. When is this going to be fixed?

Hi John - I know the iPlayer team are still working on fixing the issue with the iPlayer desktop. You may find this comment of interest.
