Bloc Party - 'I Still Remember'

Bloc PartyCHARTBLOG MOTTO No.233: It is very, very hard to dislike a song which contains the lyric "we left our trousers by the canal and our fingers, they almost touched". Write that on your exercise book, and you'll go a long way.

Not that you should judge Bloc's latest by one line alone, in fact the whole song is riddled with these kind of perfect details which manage to tell a far more compelling story than you would've got from starting with "once upon a time" and working forwards in a straight line. The imagination is an amazing tool, y'see.

And it's a really sweet story. Kele looking back over a friendship which never quite made the leap into sexier territory, mainly cos the people involved were far too young to know how to express those kind of feelings. We've all been there, right?

Course, none of us had a band behind us with a cute little guitar melody and backing vocalists repeating our every thought. And that's probably just as well. I mean it's fine while you're IN THE MOMENT, but it would get hellish irritating on the bus ride home.

Four starsReleased: April 9th
