The Fratellis - 'Baby Fratelli'

FratellisWhat's not to love about the Fratellis? They sing, they rock, they write amusing lyrics in a very clever way and they wouldn't look out of place in an episode of Scooby Doo. Taking all this into account, it would be easy to overlook the fact that musically they are also brilliant at writing ace pop singalong classics. But, hey, let's celebrate the whole kit and caboodle!

If you were to stumble into a beer-soaked 70s theme party, the highlight of the evening would probably be a lovely little belter of a song like this. It's a laddish classic, from its Doors-esque guitar intro to the bottom of its platform-booted chorus. The glam-tinged stomping refrain, which brings to mind leg-kicking drunken eegits on a night on the tiles, is impossible not to shout along to. In fact, I defy anyone to listen to this without feeling the need to grab the person next to them and jump up and down in a special kind of man dance (as opposed to a 'special man' dance).

This is, without a doubt, the best track off their mega-great debut album. Scotland must be proud.

This is flathead, not baby fratelli!

This song definitely deserves the 5 stars. The entire Fratellis album is amazing, a mix of energetic bouncy songs, slower relaxing ones and catchy tunes. I'm so happy I got to see them live, I can't think of a current band that is making better music than the Fratellis.

If it is true, that this is the best song on the album, then The Fratellis have miss timed their release of singles. In Hindsight, perhaps they should have released 'Chelsea Dagger' first, then 'Baby Fratelli' and leave Henrietta until last. I believe in this order, they would have peaked much higher, to a position they deserved.
