Maroon 5 - 'Makes Me Wonder'
There are times when you can tell on first listen what effect a song is going to have on you for the rest of your life. Sometimes this is because you always get a bit weepy and sentimental when you hear one of those songs which promises to look after you when you're fed up, sometimes this is because extraordinarily loud guitars are always a pick-me-up, and sometimes it's because you've heard some songs in an artist's back catalogue so many times on the radio, you can just see how annoying their new stuff will eventually become.
Enter Maroon 5, a band whose brilliant mission statement - playing Christina Aguilera/Justin Timberlake-style pop music on rock instruments - has been stolen by the Feeling and re-fitted with a new '70s retro colour scheme (and songs about phones). And while they've been away, thanks to the desperation of certain radio stations and their playlist antics, a lot of people came to realise that they could cheerfully live without hearing 'This Love' ever again, or any of the 'Songs For Jane' collection of 'Roon tunes.
None of this is the band's fault, but it does impact heavily on this song. Right now, it's kind of nice in a post-Backstreet Boys, 'Groovejet', super-strident hyper-polish-pop sort of way. Give it a week of constant air-play, and it'll become part of the fabric of your life, and will in some ways add to the very May-ness of this sunny May we're all having. Two weeks after that, you'll find yourself getting slightly irritable when it comes on the radio, but you won't really know why...
And a fortnight later you will roll your eyes theatrically every time you hear it, and wonder aloud whether Radio WhereverYouLive has got any OTHER records they'd like to play, because GOD they play this one, like, ALL THE TIME or something...
By the time another month goes by, you'll want to kill the world before you get to the third bar of the first verse...and THAT'S the moment your mum chooses to tell you she's bought the album because it was cheap at the supermarket and she saw the singer on GMTV and he looks like such a nice boy...
So, bearing all of this in mind...new song by Maroon 5, everyone, sounds a bit like 'Backstreet's Back'...enjoy it while you CAN...

Lol very much at the mum buying the cd part :P
Tis an alright song anyway. Maroon 5 is my good-mood house cleaning music.
A decent review on the single. I used to like Maroon 5 and this makes me sad because in a few words, its not very good.
=/
they never play harder to breathe on the radio, and they didnt seem to really when that song was out either....thats their best song! im not sure bout this one, it defo sounds like house cleaning music to me, but is that a good thing? i hate cleaning my room :(
Ooh I like cleaning. Especially when I'm mad. Cleaning is the best and most productive outlet for anger lol.
You're right about Harder to Breathe being their best. The one I got really sick of was 'She Will Be Loved', and that was without listening to the radio. It played everywhere!
well the thing with cleaning my room is that its really dusty so it makes me sneeze :( but i like having clean outs of old random rubbish stuff. i find the best anger outlet is kicking things or having ago at people on blogs (so watch out :P) this love is the single off the last album that drove me maddest, it wasnt the worst single, infact it was one of the best (behind harder to breathe) but it was litterally everywhere! awww, iv got it in my head now :S i found that songs for jane (or whatever it was called) was one of those albums that the singles were played so often that i never got round to buying the album cus i was already sick of them, like fraser said. and i dont think ill be buying the new one either due to that very same reason.
i luv tha song... x
guess what i heard on the radio today kat...she will be loved....ha! it was on local radio, i swear theyr like 3 years out of sync :S
Seriously?! That's madness, someone should let them know.
Lmao at the review xD xD
But I disagree! I could listen to Songs About Jane forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and....
You get the picture. :-P
I love this new song, granted it took me a second listen to fall in love with it but it happened! The music, the lyrics, Adam's voice, Adam's eyes, Adam in THAT suit! xD It's bloody perfect!
Sorry to sound like a fan girl, but I confess, for Maroon5 and Fallout Boy I am a total Teeny Bopper.
The comment-goblins! They stole my comment!! Disaster!
[Sorry, it's a software glitch. Thanks for letting me know! - Fraser]
It's goblins, I tell ya!
those little evil yellow and pink (sticking with the CB colour scheme so they look like fruit salad sweets) goblins have been a-snatchin' of my comments before too, and sometimes they play this game where they slow the whole process up so it takes about half an hour for you to just press 'post' and see the 'thank you for commenting' page come up. they are evil little beings, they really are!
Lol i remember when it was normal for a page to take half an hour to load, good old days eh?
if u havent got anything nice 2 say u shudnt b saying anything. keep it 2 urself!
maroon 5 rock! love it!
Excuse me, people? I love Maroon 5's new song and Adam Levine is getting hotter by the minute. I think it's great so you fans should to!
