We rattle into Paddington and I kill time in the Hilton lounge before finally arriving at Broadcasting House at 18:30.

Tom is busy prepping the show and waves through the glass as I get set up for three songs and a chat. He's on air at 19:00 and we share a big bear hug before he launches that unmistakable voice out into the digital night.

The show and our interview seem to go well - the producer is happy and two hours later, with a distinct sense of a job well done, we make our way to meet my two friends in a nearby Italian restaurant.

The company is relaxed, extrovert and confident and the time flies by.

This has become one of those London nights that you hope for but seldom realise.

Another bear hug and Tom departs leaving the three of us to wander through Chinatown alive with Chinese new year bustle.

A few later night drinks and I fall into the spare bed where sleep smothers me like a posh eiderdown.

So now it's Saturday morning and I'm in my 1st class seat, espresso fuelled and heading west. I'm heavy headed but happy.

Sometimes I really love this job.
