Jackie Oates On Tour In Italy
Jackie Oates writes:
It's now the second week of free-ish time, and I'm in Northern Italy, where I've travelled to dep for one of Ashley Hutchings' Rainbow Chasers.
I've never been to Italy before, and have never played with the band before, so the last day or so has been a weird mix of excitement and fear.
I've been playing predominantly solo material for so long now, that I think I've forgotten how unnerving it is to be on stage, and be the band member who doesn't know what they are doing, when they have to come in and in what key.
Last night we played an open-air gig at a piazza in Rovereto, to an audience of locals and little flies that descended upon the stage and crawled everywhere whilst we were playing.
I think a little fly climbed into my ear at one point.
From here I am going to make the annual journey to , where I'm doing several gigs with and an evening with .
I'm equally excited about this, as Sidmouth has been a staple part of the summer since I was two years-old.
I love it, despite the more than occasional rain and mud and communal showers.
So, its going to be another summer of travelling up and down the country (and Norway) and I'm raring to go.
My only regret about being away from home for so long, is that I've forgotten to cancel my veg box deliveries.
My new album, Hyperboreans is released on the 7 September, and I will be playing a lot of the songs at festivals this summer.
This will be followed by an October tour and expanded line up. In the meantime, some of tracks can be sampled on .
Have a great summer
Jackie x
