Dirty Boy Beats Live
Yesterday we carried on with our special Friction Live Sessions by inviting Mr. Dutty Skilla (AKA 'Gundah Bacha') into our studio.Ìý Dutty (great name I know!) has been one of the Friction show's good friends over the last 2 years.Ìý When we first started playing his version of 'Tere Bina Bhi Kya Jeena', it felt like fresh air in the guise of UK Hip Hop.Ìý
Ìý
He obviously understood how to write a great 'song' as opposed to the generic MC led 'flows' that unravel over 32 bars of music - and he seemed to making all the right decisions when it came to picking producers.Ìý Thanks to him we got to hear the full-on Asiatic/Arabic beats that existed in the brains of beat-makers like DJ Chaos & M.B.D.Ìý In those 2 years he's been one of our 'Friction Introducing'Ìýartists (ex-Future Friction for you Old Skool Headz!), sent track after track of brilliant songs (unlike a lot of MC's) and consolidated his position as one of the next generation of British MC's.Ìý He's even been played on Radio 1 by people like Huw 'In New Music We Trust' Stephens..xx
Ìý
NOW - this is all great if you listen to Radio as its all about the music (doh!).Ìý The question is would Dutty cut it live in the Friction studio?
Ìý
One worries as artists who sound great on record sometimes don't quite cut it live, and vice versa.Ìý Also with some MC's it's all about the personality as opposed to the music.Ìý I'm personally a fan of people who spit sick bars over an outstanding beat and keep things about the music.Ìý Dutty for me is 'that' kind of MC and proved it with this performance......
Ìý
What do you think about Dutty as an MC?Ìý And what do you think about him as a live performer?
