Do the Greens really mean what they say?

Graham Smith | 12:45 UK time, Wednesday, 17 March 2010

Advice from the Cornish Green Party on who to vote for in those constituencies, currently Newquay & St Austell and North Cornwall, where they do not have candidates:

"do not vote for either of the although they are pretty irrelevant in Cornwall) candidates as we regard them as indistinguishable and fatally weak on economic and environmental matters. We would also not vote UKIP as their little england attitude has no place in the modern world. If there is no one else you can vote for, we recommend you write in Green on the ballot paper."
No mention of the fact that the British National Party is fielding candidates in both of those constituencies.

Don't forget Mebyon Kernow, Cornwall's third party

Get your blinkers off, Graham of 'Graham Smith's Cornwall' - what kind of 'Cornwall' could that possibly B..BC.

You appear to have a blind spot with regard to Cornwall's only National political party, Mebyon Kernow:

Are you (GS)a member of the BNP? If not why would you promote that party at the expense of others?

  • Comment number 4.

Mebyon Kernow beat Labour in both the EU and Unitary elections last year in the Duchy yet the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ continues to discriminate against them and the stateless nation they represent.

British state-nationalism from the Beeb? No surprising really when you consider the people who control it.

come on Graham, you can do better than this! We all know the real story would be an Mk break through. MK and the Greens have had electoral pacts in the past. Lets hear more about Mk in St Austell-Newquay...

It hardly seems worth mentioning that the Greens implacably oppose the racist party - why do people, and especially the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, persist in taking them seriously. They have far less support than either the Greens or MK, and yet they seem to get far more attention from Auntie.

In Cornwall last year both Greens and MK beat Labour in the Euro election where everyone was voting for a party list - a fairly clear verdict on the relative strength of the current party of government in England.

If the role of the media is to hold up a mirror to society then it must not be a distorting mirror. I think we (Greens) got slightly more votes than MK in Cornwall, but it was very close and we represent fairly similar trains of thought, so there is really quite a large body of opinion in Cornwall which is mostly ignored by Auntie.

How about focusing on localism for Cornwall and our environment rather than dog-whistle racist politics?

They clearly say Labour are irrelevant. If that's the case, then it's hardly worth mentioning Griffin's lot.
