Swings and roundabouts
Leeds, St Helens, Camden, Brent and Southwark are all local councils which in recent years have been run by Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalitions. On Thursday the voters delivered all five into the hands of the Labour Party.

Whether to signal their disapproval of the ruling party, or to insure checks and balances betweeen different tiers of government I am not sure.
In this case, simultaneous to the general election the above was clearly not the case, perhaps because people vote for the best candidates or with their party loyalty rather than for or against the current executive as they do in general elections.
