Graham, you are not understanding the whole Duchy issue.

Constitutionalists argue that the Duchy is not what it says it is - it describes itself as a private estate covering parts of the South West of Britain when according to the law it is a territorial duchy that covers just all of Cornwall. And they argue that it describes itself as such in order to provide a tidy income to the Duke, to nullify any reason for transparency and to mask Cornwall's true constitutional status.

It is this false description that constitutionalists have a problem with. What you are doing is just regurgitating the official line, which in my book is not the job of an investigative reporter.

Please investigate the Charter of Pardon 1508 and the Cornish Foreshore Case of 1858, instead of going straight to the Duchy's website.

Try looking at the website duchyofcornwall.eu, it's a website run by constitutional campaigners that contains very many references as to Cornwall's true constitutional status. At the very least just give it a read.

Reminds me of state supported journalists in North Korea that insist their state is fair and just because that's what the fair and just state says it is.

The crucial point you have neatly sidestepped here is that Cornwall is not a republic it is in fact a Duchy. Ipso facto land is not owned by private individuals but leased from the feudal/royal lord in the case of England the Crown and in the case of Cornwall the Duchy. Land owned in Cornwall is on freehold from the Duchy, effectively land is leased from the Duchy. Unlike in Devon where the Duke freeholds land from the Crown.

How about this simple explanation: The Duchy Of Cornwall is a distinct territorial entity separate and apart from England which lies to the west and NEXT to England. In the course of the last seven centuries the Dukes of the Duchy Of Cornwall have used income derived from the people of Cornwall to acquire additional land and property beyond the territorial boundary of The Duchy Of Cornwall. Those properties beyond the boundary of The Duchy Of Cornwall are assets of The Duchy Of Cornwall but do not constitute any part of the territory that is The Duchy Of Cornwall. Is that simple enough for you?
