In session for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Scotland: Model Aeroplanes

Vic Galloway

Presenter

Ooh, I've been spoiled recently ... I've had 2 LIVE ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Introducing sessions on my ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Scotland show in February. started the month on the 3rd and ended it on 24th... Lovely!

The joy of my show for me is the eclectic nature of the music, and the sheer diversity of talent across genres on offer north of the border. Model Aeroplanes are a band who are relatively new on the scene and new to most listeners. But having booked them to play the , I knew what to expect. They delivered on so many counts - they're young, professional, skilled, tight and were completely up for the whole experience. Bringing their chiming guitars, harmony vocals and rock-solid rhythm section into our lovely Studio 1 in Pacific Quay, Glasgow; they showcased two original numbers and a classic cover.

Model Aeroplanes - Crazy

For a few approximate influences, imagine Vampire Weekend, 2 Door Cinema Club and Foals as reference points and with singles as strong as Crazy and Innocent Love, they could quite easily be tredding the boards alongside the aformentioned bands in the future. At the tender age of 18 they have a very bright future ahead of them, should they want it and work for it. For their debut ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ session, they served up blistering versions of the 2 singles and then graced the airwaves with an excellent arrangement of Mary's Prayer by another Dundee band .

Model Aeroplanes - Mary's Prayer

Not only was this a huge hit in the 1980s and is still well-loved today, it also showed a young Dundee band pay respect to a previous success story from that very city. With Danny Wilson's lead-singer and songwriter Gary Clark listening in on the night, the pressure was on but they stepped up to the mark and did the track proud! The baton has been duly passed on and Model Aeroplanes are ready to fly away with it...
