The Magazine index today warmly welcomes a new weekly feature: Indexed.
Created by Jessica Hagy, and , Indexed offers a neat analysis of modern life, all incorporated into that underused medium of index cards, the type of which one would have found in the pre-computer school library.
Praise for Jessica in the blogosphere has been plentiful, including who said: "In a surprisingly insightful manner, these doodles on index cards poke fun at fashion, politics, television and every other area of culture and human nature." wrote: "Jessica uses charts, graphs and Venn diagrams to clarify her thinking. Then she shares her conclusions as 3x5 cards with visitors to her blog."
The Magazine is very happy to welcome Jessica and is sure everyone will be nice to her. Comments can be left here.

I have been a huge fan of Indexed and Jessica for a while now. How fantastic to have her join Magazine...of which I am also a huge fan!
I love indexed! The social commentary displayed with mathmatical precision cuts right to the heart of the frailty of the human condition. Thanks for showing Indexed, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳.
Fantastic! The intersection of two of my daily reads in the same place.
Hi Jessica, welcome to the Magazine. Do you know how many 3x5 index cards you can fit on the side of a Routemaster bus?
fantastic!!
Very pretty, but I don't come to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ for whimsy!
Fantastic news! The indexed blog is amazingly on point. Welcome to the Magazine, Jessica.
I think Jessica is extremely creative. What a novel and entertaining idea! Love it
In the morning I come to the bbc for news, by afternoon tea-break I'm all for whimsy and pedantry!
Now I have months of Indexed to go through - joy!
And as a librarian in the electronic age, I love the kitsch touch of the index card...
It may be whimsy but it's certainly poignant all the same.
Thank you Jessica!
I for one think whimsy, very articulate and well-diagrammed whimsy, is great, no matter what the forum.
Besides, who wants politics and depressing war info all the time?
It's nice to have a little something that makes you smile or laugh.
If you don't like it, don't read it!
thank you.
signed,
Indexed Fan.
Brilliant!
Vienna: why not?! Indexed is amazing. I'm a fan.
As a fan of Jessica's, I'm thrilled that you're featuring her here. I'm sure other readers will agree with me. She's witty, clever, and makes me wish I had been drawing on notecards during my college classes instead of doing crossword puzzles.
Very nice feature. Please include the title with the card...this one is called "Sometimes average is good."
I only discovered this through her appearance on Penn podcast and loved the worst camping trip .
Welcome to the Monitor, Jessica. It will sure be wonderful to have you in this fun-place.
So, will there be a flexicon entry to describe this?
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ sinks to new low... And I thought this years Red-Nose 'comedy' was bad.
Can I have a refund on my licence fee as I think you idiots are squandering it?
I missed "Sentence Diagramming 101" (I didn't go to "Grade" school), so consequently I just don't get it. Am I alone?
Where? Where is it?
I have been a devoted fan of Jessica's deeply intelligent and sweetly dry humor for awhile. Congrats for adding all that to Magazine. You just acquired a new reader.
To Phil, who asks "where is it?" Ahh it's like a will-o-the-wisp. Catch it on Fridays and over the weekend, because by Monday morning it will be gone.
I think that it is great for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ to highlight the work of Jessica. There at times is a lot of great ah-ha ideas that are created by her indexes and certainly is a refreshing break from the norm. Just like the funny pages, but better.
I'd never been to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ site before, but I read indexed blog regularly. Now, I'll check in here, too. Thanks for adding her to your site.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Bravo! How fresh, so wonderfully dry, poignant, alive with a style so welcome at the magazine.
Ten million, billion, trillion welcomes, hugs and kisses.
'Hope your not really Gary Larsen on diet pills out of retirement. xo
I'm sorry to be the only person not to like Indexed but they are just bland and uninsipired, I probably just don't "get it" but they aren't funny or even thought provoking.
#19 Jim...I think it is a problem with being English, not with not having been to 'Grade' School. I don't get it either...in fact I don't get most of them...but then, does everyone? Really?
Congratulations Jessica! I think you deserve a prominent spot in the arena of the readers' attention. Your idea is simply brilliant and an innovative, looking at things in life trough math.
The execution is sweet, simple and inviting.
As a former math teacher I would say it's one of the answers to a pupils' question wether and how math can be used in everyday life.
I am a regular visitor to your blog and I will continue to do so as long as you have the inspiration!
Greetings from Antwerp.
Sorry.
I just dont get it. Must be me.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. They are such a great idea. Thanks ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳.
I can't believe there are people that are complaining about this. How about a Venn Diagram for them Jessica?
