Why Blog?

But why do we blog? I can think of more reasons not to blog than I can think of for committing myself to the daily routine of writing blogs, reading blogs and commenting on blogs. But I still do it.
So why do we blog? How would you convince someone who has never blogged to start? I know people who've said that they don't blog because they've nothing to blog about, a concept that a vast number of bloggers have never really thought about (otherwise there wouldn't be as many as there are!).
Granted there are a lot of blogs out there that don't really serve a purpose other than to be a voice on the internet for the writer, but many more blogs do serve an audience. It could be for the sharing of ideas and opinions, problem solving, reviews, training, news etc. etc. But would we miss them if they were not there?
It would be interesting to know how Manchester bloggers first got into it. How have your blogs evolved. Are they personal online diaries or are they serving an online community in some way? And does being based in Manchester make any difference to what or how you blog?

I blog because I like being in contact with the people in the 成人论坛 [including 成人论坛 Manchester] because 成人论坛 [incluing 成人论坛 Manchester] is my second family.

I've got lots of different interests and I've got different blogs about different things, my current blog Urban Guru expresses my really positive self-inspired side of my personality.
It helps to focus my (internet) attention one things that inspire me rather than things that get me stressed or help me become slightly more cynical than i already am.
It's a goal I'm setting myself, to be happy - to feel inspired in Manchester and my blog is actually a really good way of helping me to do that. It's kinda like a self-fulfilling prophecy - my online / virtual self and real life self eventually merge.
I noticed this phenomenon driving around town yesterday while i was thinking that '89% of people would rather have Inner Peace than Material Wealth' (see my blog)
and it really changed my day - everyone I met was in a good mood, and i really felt 'people are SO nice!'
Of course I'm also a Life Coach and blogging helps to promote my little spiritual coaching service as well. All in all - i love it!

Essentially I blog because I have a poor memory. Record what I've had for dinner, every football match I've seen. I wouldn't want to be a famous blogger - too much pressure, and then everyone would know what a repetitive life I have.

I blog because I like writing about Manchester culture, and I enjoy spreading the word about other Mancunians' blogs. I spend a lot of time out and about in the city or reading stuff about Manchester online, and if I happen on something interesting, it's easy enough to pass it on through a blog post.
And, as a writer, it's nice to be doing something less formal, where I can be my own wackly little self and not have to worry too much about it.

I started my blog last year in order to raise awareness of indie designers/makers/crafters etc. There are lots of small independents out there creating/producing great things and I wanted to make people aware of it. It's dedicated to people who want something different to high street brands.
I also blog because I enjoy writing and the Interent provides a vast audience.

Oh, this is an interesting blog.
I blog first and foremost to let people know what I'm up to. It was started to actually save time (it does nothing of the sort nowadays, naturally) by having everybody come to one place to find out what I was doing, instead of me typing individually to them.
There's naturally a hint of self-obsession to the whole thing, but effort goes into keeping such things in check.
See? Even this comment is self-obsessed. What a crazy medium.
