I can hear the Sirens coming...
and controversy go together like glove and hand - most recently the controversy is over this:
The video for his new single 'Sirens' looks heavy heavy heavy! Instead of the video taking the cliche route of 'road yout being chased by 5-0', Dizzee and director (who's also done videos for rock acts Kasabian and Franz Ferdinand) have very cleverly flipped the script and it shows him being hunted like a fox on a fox hunt. The feel of it is really cinematic, really well shot, really expensive! Exactly the kind of video that we should expect to see from the likes of Dizz in the UK.
HOWEVER
Other than the obvious (that the hunt party should be looking for MC Nuts rather than Dizzee) - some idiots "critics" have taken the concept completely the wrong way and are claiming that the subtext is racist - that the video is about white people hunting black people.
I think it's quite blatant that the video isn't trying to say that in any way - it's just cleverly flipping the image we're expecting to see with the fox hunters replacing the police and Dizzee replacing the fox but what do you think?
Comments
Post your commentUnfortunately this is the UK, things are ALWAYS taken out of context when it concerns "urban" acts..tut tut..lovely video regardless K.I.P (myspace.com/ghostpoet)
The video is unsane. It's the best video to come out of the UK for years and they make good videos over here.
The Hunt obviously represent the police or at most the ruling class. 99.99999% of white people would never go on a hunt just like 99.99999% of black people wouldn't try and climb over one of those foul, broken-glass-topped walls. People take isht too litereally. Damn.
Although I ain't to fond of the lyrical situation in the new dizzee chune, the video has been brilliantly shot (it really shows how grime and british rap is progressing) it clearly rep's a fox hunt and definatly not a white vs black race for life. I think critics are just there to stir things up, any decent person would recognise that.
lol to whoever thought this was about white vs black people, that's some funny ish. people really need to get an education and learn how to see things in context and not take everything literally! What a video, a refreshing stance opposed to the rest of the Uk scene which is either, dance with your mates on a white background, have some cheap cars, cheaper girls and the chepest HI8 video cam you can find in uncle's garage. dizee on point with this one x

was not all that...
Yes Yes Dizzee what a heavy tune, W.I.Z thats one Bad ass video, all other Grime acts Take note, fix up look sharp cos ALL your vidoes are SUPER DRY next to this, Please please please up your levels, , White vs Black me thinks not, its all about the Fox hunt, Dam some people are stupid.
Tune is prorper heavy Still, Big Up,
I do like the Video, And as a big Dizz fan I'll obviously like the song.....I will add, not as much as I'd hoped.
As far as these 'idiots'/'Critics' I dont Believe Dizz would put himself into a situation where racial controversy would be an issue!!!.....But Critics are critics and you can't blame them in the slightest for their opinions!....Just watch the video!
That vid is heavy man.
i think we need to look a bit further than just a fox hunting situation, it seems to be an analogy more than anything. i feel this vid represents the inequalities within society and how the rich hunt the poor and exploit those who do not hold power. if it is as basic to just say its a fox hunt and the it represents the police does not do the depth of this video justice. like it says in the vid only cowards steal from the poor and that is exactly what is happenin in this day and age. make ur tinkin less bout literal and more conceptual, mayb we wd get more like diz sayin the rite tings!!!!!
this is typical rubbish but its clear that someone has put money into it which is why its gonna get played. this is such a sahme because there are so may people within this scene with so much talent that will be totally overlooked. this song will go far due to people like radio 1 throwin it on us but never the less it s still a poor tune
In some degree i would agree that the video is somewhat unique...some of the views raised I definiately agree with. But I dont think this is, a white or black issue. Hence, it indicates what might be in the current future....should the white people have their own way the ensalve the generation once more.
This video is the business!!!! I think only the creator of the video can express how this video should be taken. I mean who knows the video better than him???? Nobody??? People shouldn't criticize before hearing the facts first hand from the horses mouth!!!
Well let the critics look at it like black slavery, what about that. If its from the days of victorian then it fits perfectly into proportion. Anyway not racist 1 bit big tune big vid dizz is doin it for da uk!
wot r dese ppl on!
how can da tune b racist...really?
its like..metaphorical enit!
i fink its sik still!
1ne
Like the tune the vid is amazin! personally i dont see it as racist in anyway, but if u take it as patheticly as these idiots do these days then yes it is a few white people chasing a black person - it must be racist!. i think if they stuck a black man on a horse in one shot of the vid for like a second people wouldnt have a problem with it - if u ask me its pathetic to think that the vid is racist people read too much into things instead of just appreciating a great music vid
Heavy vid, n a nice upgrade from his usual stuff, it's alot more serious, and lyrically im likin it.
This video looks like Dizee is a slave running from a slave master back in the day. I guess that part represents the police. And towards the end the girls became wet when Dizze took off his shirt. This represents the Animal Magnetism of the Ebony Man.
the thing is is that the uk grime scene is very black orientated so it will conseive that there will be a rasist point of view but people need to look past that and focus on the artist and his lyrical talent

I watched the making of on base and thought it would work out well.
The truth is however that I just think the editing on the video was below par.
I really aint hating coz I love Dizee but anyone can see that as flash as the video looks, some basics have been missed by the director in terms of how all the different scenes were constructed.
I don't enjoy the video for this reason.
The tunes nice tho.
Peace.
