Lil Wayne - Beat Biter?
I've been beat jacked!! Again!! For those not au fait with Hip Hop vernacular, someone may have 'appropriated' a beat I made!
Back in the days, I made some beats and did some songs (I won't go as far as to say I was a producer, but I may go back to it in the future - anyway, I digress). One of the songs I did was with Wu Tang affiliate and all round nice emcee Shabazz The Disciple called "Red Hook Day". It was released in the US on an independent record label in 2003 but never got released over here. It got quite a lot of love in the US - lots of radio spins, backing from some of the big names in Hip Hop such as DJ Premier, Funk Flex etc... #3 in boombap.com's top 10 tracks of 2003, licensed to a load of compilations/TV shows/films etc... If it had the right label behind it, it would have been a lot bigger.
Check it
First, Mark Ronson used the same sample but flipped it differently for "Tell A Story" on Rhymefest's album.
Didn't really mind that because he worked the sample differently and hey, at the end of the day, it's a sample. BUT there's a new Lil Wayne track doing the internet rounds called "La La La" that is supposed to be from his forthcoming album where the producer has straight jacked my beat! Very similar sample chops, very similar bass line, very similar drum pattern...
Listen to it here
Compare it to 'Red Hook Day' so...should I be chasing Weezy for a cheque? Or should I be sending him my beat CD from 2003?
**2008 UPDATE - It seems like this is definitely making Carter 3. I still haven't really acted on it yet, should I?**

Post your commentI'll tell you one thing, "Red Hook Day" is better than both of those!
I listened to you talk about it on the radio show, and I think Lil Wayne is soooo lame. It's a ill beat, believe, and he just took it like that. I'd send him the track with a letter telling him to make it right. Who knows, it might not have been intentional, or the track might have been given to him by someone. Or he could totally be pushin his luck. This comes from a US listener who thinks fair payment should go around.
Yo the beat is banging , and Lil wayne killed it , on wikipedia they said it wasnt gon be on his album though, so its like a mixtape joint
If it does make the album then... otherwise mixtape joints are just that. Did you clear the sample? cos if you didn't they'd just bypass you and get it there.
Skitz got money off that Monica track that used the beat he used with Roots Manuva. Remember that?
I thought your blog had deleted recent posts and was showing its most recent post as something from the middle of last year.
This has been out since then. I emailed you about it!
Just let it be man. This aint the first (and sure wont be the last) time u hear the same beat whether they're made by the same person or not.
For as much music goin around these days you cant expect everyone to create new sounds. Sometimes its better to bring back that old hot shit in a new way.
Yo Jam i heard that weezy track b4 and its fire!
You need to tell weezy he's welcome to use it but u need the dolo for it!
this is ur chance to cash in cos i heard the bbc aint payin much these days!
Props to u on that beat tho its live but im sure u know that.. what kinda compilations/TV shows/films was it used 4?
bless

I see what you are saying Jam, Ronson did flip it differently, but Wayne has blatantly taken what you have done, not much difference, maybe slightly slower. If it's just a mixtape track as you probably know there isn't much you can do about it, but if it makes Carter 3, I think you should follow it up. After all there's no denying hip hop is run on money now, it's only right that you should get yours if Wayne's going to be cashing in millions.
Beat sounds brilliant by the way!
this is hip hop, people have been straight jackin beats for time, nothing new here.
ahhh, didn,t all of you bite someone's else work! You took a sample and they did the same thing.
i strongly suggest mistajam you should take some action thats your beat to start of with, thats your compassion of music you shouldnt let lil wanye take credit of a sick beat like that come on man take action
theres nuthin to do. just let it be. wayne got fir i dont care what anyone says, he's got FIRE. you should just leave it alone. move on.
Just allow it to avoid problems..cause no one knows what might happen after reporting him/ Kev North SWE...
